Dr. Tilak Weerasiri

About Tilak

Tilak migrated to Australia in 1970 and lived with his parents in Keon Park, where his father, Dr Donald Weerasiri, had a large GP practice and was a pioneer in after-hours consultation.

Tilak’s Education

He attended Melbourne High School in South Yarra and graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1977. He then trained extensively in obstetrics and gynaecology in both Britain and Australia. It was during his training in Britain that he met and married his wife of 38 years.

Latest Techniques

Tilak combines his extensive experience in gynaecology with the latest technology to offer optimal results with minimal morbidity. He is a member of the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy Society. He has a special interest in infertility and is an Associate Gynaecologist at Monash IVF.

Tilak offers a wide range of services spanning almost the entire breadth of the speciality.

Currently, Tilak’s consulting rooms are behind Northpark Hospital, at 11 Oxley Avenue, Bundoora and get delivers at Northpark Private Hospital and The Mercy Hospital for Women.

Tilak’s Family Life

Tilak has great empathy for women. In his family, he has had personal experience with miscarriage, infertility, micro premature birth and twin pregnancy. Tilak and his wife, Shan, have four children, four grandchildren and a dog named Snoopy. In his spare time, he likes to swim, walk, ski, read and play with his grandchildren.

Meet Our Friendly Team

Shan Weerasiri

In 2019 Shan took a more active role in the practice. Her years of managing a busy household with four children and managing her successful patisserie business come in handy when directing the practice.

Shan’s leadership of the practice ensures that it runs efficiently and effectively. She was responsible for the renovation of our new building. Thanks to her eye for detail, our consulting suites that are comfortable, user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. Shan has also modernised the practice by designing a new website, introducing online booking, online pathology reports, email correspondence and faxing.

She is also responsible for our social media and marketing.

Shan’s primary focus is the patient experience. Having experienced pregnancy loss, premature birth and having four children of her own, Shan understands the patient perspective more than most. She has introduced longer patient consult times and shorter waiting times for our patients’ comfort and convenience.

Shan was born in Sri Lanka, grew up in UK and came to Australia for love. She’s fluent in both English and Singhalese and is available during office hours to answer any questions or concerns you

Tracey Martin

Tracey is a warm and compassionate person and a tremendous asset to our practice. She is amazing at handling accounts and uses her thorough knowledge of Medicare to make sure all our patients gain maximum benefits.

Tracey has been with us since 2019, having previously worked as a clerk in the Maternity Ward at Northpark Private Hospital. Tracey grew up in the Diamond Valley area and lives locally in Yarrambat. Tracey is married and has a son and two daughters.

Meliza Ackerman 

Meliza is new to the team and is extremely hard-working and efficient. No task is too hard for Meliza. The speed at which she finishes tasks has earned her the nickname ‘Speedy Gonzales’.

Meliza is a beauty therapist by trade and her experience of working with people is reflected in the way she interacts with our patients. Courteous, friendly and always smiling, she instantly puts people at ease.

Meliza was born in South Africa and is fluent in both English and Afrikaans. She immigrated to Australia in 2006 with her family. They love living in Australia. Meliza is the proud mother of a grown son and daughter.

Abigail Karunaratna

Abigail is the baby of our practice and has been with us since the end of 2019.

Abigail is a very intelligent young lady who learned how to run the practice in a matter of weeks. She has excellent computer skills and she completely reorganised our filing system. Abigail always does her best and her warmth has gained her the love of all our patients. Abigail is in her first year at university doing a double degree in Chemical Engineering with Pharmaceutical Science and has a Certificate in Allied Health Assistance.

Abigail was born in Sri Lanka but grew up in Victoria. She enjoys reading, sketching and walks with her dog.

Dr Rebekah Field 

Rebekah, affectionately know. As ‘Bek’ is Shan and Tilak’s second- born child. She assists Tilak in surgery at Northpark Private Hospital.

Bek excelled in academics, music and art while at school. She completed a Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University in 2009 and Diploma of Children’s Health in 2011.

Bek is married to a lovely man and has two children. Apart from music she also enjoys reading and painting

Our new consulting suite is at 11 Oxley Avenue, Bundoora.

It’s a state of the art space filled with natural light. There’s free parking on site with disable access. Children are always welcome with a special play area for them.

Some minor Gynaecological procedure are also performed here.
